Elías de Andrés has been guiding for nearly 20 years, and in Ouray since the winter of 2010. Fascinated by the offerings of the frozen waterfalls of the San Juan Mountains, he decided to make SW Colorado his permanent hometown after a decade guiding in the Pacific Northwest and internationally. For the last 15 years, he’s specialized in teaching ice climbing with particular focus on its application in the alpine climbs of Alaska and the Himalaya, where year after year he brings his “graduates” to put the learned skills into play. A physical education major and certified AMGA Alpine Guide, Elías has an affinity for those who seek constant learning and development in the alpine world and enjoy the path as much as the objective. Elías lives in Ouray with his wife of 20 years and is always eager to help his clients plan and prepare for the next expedition.
